The Cuillin mountains in winter
Autumn / Winter Full Day Tour (October to Mid April)

The Autumn / Winter day tour is one of few tours to run in wintertime on the Isle of Skye. You have the choice of our standard tour described below, or you can have a bespoke tour to any part of the island we can cover within the time available. For instance, to the Fairy Pools or Neist Point or any combination of beauty spots on the Isle of Skye. Our standard tour leaves Portree and makes its way first to the Fairy Glen where you will have the opportunity to see this enchanted glen in winter which few other tour companies do. We then visit both the Uig Pottery* and the Uig Brewery*, the home of the famous Skye Ales - craft beer brewed on the Isle of Skye.

It then carries on around the top of the peninsula and stops first at the Quiraing where we will spend 30 minutes. We will then call in at Staffin where there is a 10 minute toilet break. It's then on to the the Kilt Rock with a short time out of the vehicle before going on to the Old Man of Storr for a photo stop on the way back to Portree where we will take a short break. All along the way, the driver will share many of the stories, myths and legends (and some facts) about the Island.

It then leaves Portree and makes its way down to Sligachan where you will see part of the magnificent Cuillin Mountain range. From there it is on round the west of the Island for more sightseeing and photo stops, then a visit to 'Island at the Edge'*, a traditional croft where sheep are raised and beautiful tweeds and fabrics are made. This tour lasts 6 hours due to the shorter day. In the Highlands in winter it doesn't fully get light until about 9:30 a.m. and starts getting dark about 4:00 p.m.. We then make our way back to Portree. There will be many stops to take photographs.

For a more intimate experience, we run this tour in one of our comfortable, modern cars with room for up to four people, however it is more comfortable with three. Price £150.00 per tour for up to four people (price per tour, not person). You will not be sharing on this tour, each booking is exclusive to you.

On the rare occasions on the Isle of Skye that the roads are impassable with snow, full refunds will be given.
* Dependent on the locations being open to visitors at the time of the tour. If we aren't able to take you there, we will find alternative places of interest to visit.

Eilean Donan Castle
Special Highland Castle Tours (Sundays only)

We run a special tour to visit castles on Sundays from May to September. We first go to Dunvegan Castle and then down the length of the island and over the Skye Bridge to the mainland to see the wonderful Eilean Donan Castle in Dornie. Both have a long and fascinating history and are famous the world over. We will spent at least two hours at each castle to enable you to take the tours. On the way to Eilean Donan we will stop for lunch in either Sligachan or Kyleakin and in passing also pay a short visit for a photo shoot to the ruins of Castle Maol, an ancient seat of both the Vikings and the Clan MacKinnon in Kyleakin. Information on that castle here.

Dunvegan Castle is a castle a mile and a half to the north of Dunvegan. It is the seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod, chief of the Clan MacLeod. Dunvegan Castle is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and has been the stronghold of the chiefs of the clan for more than 800 years. Daily tours of the castle and gardens from 1 April - 15 October (10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m) Link to the information on Visit Scotland here.

Eilean Donan Castle is also an iconic landmark perhaps even better known than Dunvegan Castle. Standing at the meeting point of three sea lochs located in stunning scenery amid the mountains, the castle has played a role in Highland history, including in the Jacobite Rising. The first castle was built in the mid 13th Century and has been rebuilt many times. Its dramatic location makes a definite place to visit while on the Isle of Skye. The Castle is open from 25 March to 29 October - opening times (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. - June & September 9:30 a.m. opening - July & August 9:00 a.m. opening). Link to more information on the Castle website here. Please note admission charges are not included in the fare nor is lunch. The tour lasts for over 8 hours and costs £75.00 per person.
